It came time again to change my brake pads. Honestly, I really need to change my rotors, since my pads keep wearing out prematurely, but I figured "you know what, one step at a time." Since I will be working this Thursday, which is usually my day off, I decided to go for it last night. Went to Walmart, picked up some jack stands, and then came home and parked my car in the garage. Got to work. First, I hadn't counted on the fact that I only loosened the bolts on the right side, not the drivers. So the drivers side took me forever to get done. Then, I always forget if it's still "lefty loosey, righty tightie" since the bolts face away. I know, I'm an idiot....but I get to thinking 'maybe the car manufacturers decided to make it easier for is and keep it LLRR even though the bolts face away from us. So I end up spending 20 minutes arguing with myself about this, and then freaking out because I don't know if I'm making any leeway or just tightening the bolts even more. So I finally manage to get the bolts off, and the caliper off....shit, where's my brake pad separator tool? I go back in the house, tear everything apart, and no tool. This bullshit ass little $3 thing is constantly annoying me by being in the way and having absolutely not use other than this, but i never throw it away. Now, it cannot be found. A c-clamp would work, but I don't have one. So I spend the next hour freaking out about what to do. I try to push it back in manually, to no avail. I go back into the house to look, but no luck. At this point it's late, autopart stores by me are closed. I could try Walmart but I'd have to bike there in the rain since Carlos wasn't home. Thankfully both Denise and Christie came to my rescue. Denise helped me kept my sanity by offering to come drive me, and then Christie actually had a clamp so she brought it over. And then stayed while I finished and did the other set of brakes too. Plus she had a badass jack which made my life all the simpler.
