Can anyone please answer my question on starter packs for the Art Institute?

I have applied for the Art Institute of Philadelphia for Interactive Media Design. I was wondering if anyone has been there or is going there who would tell me why I need a starter pack filled with mostly art supplies. I have one drawing course. The rest

The instructor will give you a list of supplies the first day of class. Every list I ever got, I only needed half of what they put on there, so you might want to wait to see if you actually need to buy everything on the list or if you can improvise--
