1999 ford escort zx2 spark plug installation?
im needing to replace my existing spark plugs and wires in my 1999 ford escort zx2 and i have NO clue when it comes to cars so i dunno what to do and i DON'T want to pay a mechanic alot of money to have them installed 1 because of the extra money to pay them, and 2 because i want to learn how to do this myself. so i was wondering how hard would it be to do this? also if anybody knew of any websites that would have an illustrated guide on completing this. thanks :)
p.s. stupid answers will be reported answers such as "take it to a mechanic" etc only real people with KNOWLEDGE of cars need apply .thanks again :d
Take it to a mechanic. Just kidding. There are only 4 plugs, in the center of the valve cover. Pull the plug wires off of the plugs, and get a 5/8" socket and an extension. Remove the plugs and install the new ones when the engine is cold. The wires are fit to length, so its easy to replace them. The firing order is 1342 in case you mess up. You can mark the old wires so you know where the new ones go. In fact, a digital camera works really well. The coil is marked for which cylinder it fires..so its not a hard job either way. Takes about ten minutes to perform this....
