I know this is a vague question, but I would just like to know common alternator/starter problems and their average costs so I know what I should be looking at.
You usually don't repair those things. Rebuilts are pretty cheap, and when you've gone through all the time and busted knuckles to get them off, it's almost always better to put new ones back in.

There are people in this world who belong to a tribe called “The Snowbirds”, who travel by boat up and down the east coast of the US along the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW).
