This rare 1990 Volkswagen Jetta GL Coupe , that’s right, it’s a 2 door, is a currently running fully functional NO RUST THROUGH car that would make an ideal candidate for a conversion to a 16v, VR6 or 1.8t .
These are the least common of the A2 or MKII chassis VW’s, and make the best candiates for a swap
They are the lowest weight of all of the body styles in this series, since they do not have the heavy hatch like a Golf/GTI. And they are the stiffest body of the series as they have only two doors and they lack the “big hole” for the hatch.
Hmm, light and stiff body… sounds like an opportunity to me.
This one is also a manual transmission one, rare in the Coupe as the vast majority of them came with an automatic… This ones been a stick from day 1.
Its currently in driving condition, so it can be used as a daily driver while you gather the parts for a killer conversion. I did a VR6 conversion on one of these a few years ago and wish that I had started with a manual transmission one, as it took lots of time trying to find all of the parts and pieces needs to do the transmission conversion, along with the engine swap….who’d a thunk that the rack and pinion units are different?
