Work update
Have been at work for a month now.
I cannot believe the “frugalness” of the people coming in.
For example, they pay $20,000 or more for a vehicle. They then pay monthly insurance and maintenance for items such as gas.
When it comes time to change the air filter, they install a $65 K & N air filter - nothing but the best.
When it comes to oil, they get the $30 for a 5 quart bottle of synthetic oil
The oil filter? They want the “cheapest” oil filter.
How many believe Fram is the best oil filter (like I USED to?)
If the filter costs less than $6, you are getting what you pay for, or rather you are not getting what you haven’t paid for.
I have since learned that Fram oil filters are poorly made and always wondered why my oil was dirty in a car with less than 50,000 miles and not driven hard right after completing an oil change. I have now switched to Mobile 1 oil filters while still continuing to use my standard brand of oil and my oil stays clean now!
My oil filter does cost $13 but isn’t $13 every 3,000 miles still far cheaper than a new engine or buying and having a rebuilt engine installed?
That said, help out those poor folks behind the parts counter.
YOU KNOW your car! We do not. We have a computer that helps us locate the correct part for you.
Fortunately, I work for a company that does not force us to make sales but rather they want us to sell the correct parts. This includes testing existing parts that we can before selling you a part or component that may not be bad. Batteries, starters, and alternators can be tested IN your car for FREE! If I am not certain the part being checked is bad, I recommend a second opinion to the car owner.
When you enter the store to get a specific part, do not start by stating:
“I need a starterformyNissanSentra1986limitededitionwithairconditioning.” We will not understand it!
